About
If you’re on the lookout for authentic Thai cuisine in Abilene, look no further than Krua Thai Restaurant. Nestled at 790 S Leggett, this charming eatery offers a delightful menu filled with classic flavors that transport your taste buds straight to Thailand. From its warm ambiance to its dedicated owner, Lak, who ensures every guest feels welcomed, Krua Thai stands out as a must-visit destination.
One of the restaurant’s biggest draws is its diverse menu featuring a wide array of dishes that cater to both meat lovers and vegetarians. Customers rave about the Tom Kha soup and a variety of delicious curries. The Massema curry, recommended as a mild option, is a particular highlight, showcasing rich flavors and vibrant ingredients. As Garry H. notes, the food is “consistently delicious,” making it a favorite among locals. However, spice enthusiasts should be aware of the scale: the spice levels range from 1 to 5, with even a 2 being quite zesty.
While the restaurant has a quaint and intimate setting, making reservations is advisable, especially if visiting with a group (note that groups over 8 are not accepted). The dining room may be small, but the taste is anything but limited. Dean S. commends the skill of the culinary staff, emphasizing that the curry and noodle dishes are exceptional.
Krua Thai Restaurant also provides various conveniences to enhance your dining experience. With takeout and delivery options, as well as outdoor patio seating, there's no shortage of ways to enjoy their scrumptious offerings. The restaurant is wheelchair accessible, accepts credit cards, and even allows dogs on the patio, making it a versatile spot for family outings — kids included!

“ Krua Thai is the best Thai restaurant in town, and my favorite. The food is consistently delicious, and there is quite a variety to choose from. We have been friends with the owner, Lak, for years, and she is a wonderful person. The dining room is very small, so it can be hard to get a table. She doesn't accept any groups over 8. Be aware that Thai food can't be very spicy when ordered that way. I used to order 4 star, the spiciest. And it was hot! Now I order 1 star. My stomach just can't handle it anymore. And you can't return any food that you order too spicy. You ordered it, it's yours! Again, the food is delicious, and well worth a visit by you! ”
“ Great Tom Kha soup and others too. Spiced right to request. Thai curries and noodle dishes have been great as well. Convenient hours. ”
“ I absolutely love everything about Krua Thai! The owner is a delight! She is always so friendly and full of fun conversation when she's not busy. The food is always amazing and full of flavor. We have tried so many of the dishes and have enjoyed every one of them. My particular favorite is the Massema curry mild with chicken and the spring rolls. The restaurant is small and delivery is not an option but you can do pickup. Anytime someone asks about Thia food this is the only place I would recommend! ”
“ Best Tai food in Abilene. Very small sitting area but still possible to eat in and take out is great. Lady in the back is very skilled. As others said the spice scale is 1 to 5. 2 is still spicy but no danger. 3 and up are entering the danger zone. Don't get the fried spring rolls. Curry's are great as well as Tom Yum soup. ”
“ Best Thai food I have had since Kanomwan closed in Houston. 3 is what most people call Thai Spicy. Had amazing Tom Yum Kung soup, Krapow (chicken basil. Don't let the location or small size of the restaurant make you miss out. ”
“ I had the thom kai soup and it was very good and authentic tasting. The service was friendly and cozy dining area for dining in. It's a gem in Abilene ”
“ Tried this place today and it was terrific! The host was perfectly lovely and helpful. The food came out quickly and was great! I ordered green curry with a heat level of 3 (hot) and while it was spicy it didn't overwhelm me. I guess it's because I am Korean and usually eat quite a lot of spicy food. My husband had Pad Thai and he enjoyed it very much. We also had fried shrimp rolls for an appetiser. Sure the place is small and the seating is limited but we arrived at just the right time and finished just as the place was filling up. We also got a kick out of the house rules that were written on the dry erase board. Will definitely be going back. Just great! ”
“ Excellent food and can never go wrong with curry. I have never been disappointed with the food or service. ”
“ Multiple people recommended Krua Thai in Abilene and I can sure see why! One of them mentioned to grab it to go and I certainly didn't understand this was a thing. There are only about 4 to 5 tables inside, and the staff will not move them together to accommodate larger parties. Your whole party must be present to be seated but you can tell they certainly prefer you to take your food to go. Regardless, we had seven of us who chose to be seated. You can definitely tell they are authentically Thai based on this level or lack thereof service. I love that the bottom of every page in the menu states "food cannot be returned if too spicy". We ordered a little bit of everything- fried spring rolls, fried shrimp rolls, fried tofu, pad see ew, pad, Thai, panang curry, and Thai basil. Everything was incredibly delicious and this is one of the best Thai food restaurants I've had in all of Texas. Their Thai tea is one of the best quality teas I've had the pleasure of drinking, although it wasn't as sweet as I would prefer. I would definitely chuckle given a Thai iced tea is 2.99 while a Thai tea with no ice is 4.99. We got everything with mild spice as we were certainly scared off between the signs around the restaurant and in the menu. It was the perfect spice for me as someone who enjoys a tiny kick. When you are finished, you pay at the front and they do not take any type of tap payments. I will definitely be back every time I pass through Abilene! Although I'll likely take it to go next time! ”
“ We have an exchange student from Thailand this year so we wanted to learn more about her homeland food. I had never experienced Thai food but I have to say it's wonderful. This small place was buzzing with to go orders , all the tables were full and yet we got great service and awesome food. I am a heat sissy so I ordered mild and it was still warm.... But so much flavor and goodness! We will be back ! ”
